This week (13 December 2019), Samantha Johnson and colleagues have mailed out a complimentary copy of the new PARCA-R (Parent Report of Children’s Abilities-Revised) manual to every neonatal unit in the UK.
The PARCA-R is a parent completed questionnaire of children’s cognitive and language development for use at 24 months of age. Standardised scores can now be obtained and used to identify children with delay. The manual you have been sent describes the development of the questionnaire and provides all the information needed to score the PARCA-R and interpret the results in clinical practice.
In 2017, NICE recommended that the PARCA-R be used to identify children at risk of developmental delay as part of a face-to-face assessment at 2 years of age for preterm born children who are eligible for enhanced developmental surveillance.
The questionnaire is free to use and can be downloaded from the PARCA-R website. An online calculator for obtaining the standard scores is also provided on the website, along with a pdf of the new PARCA-R manual should you wish to download a copy.
If you have any further queries, or wish to confirm that your unit has been sent a manual, please contact the PARCA-R Team.
