The British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) is a professional association and registered charity (No.1199712). Established in 1976, BAPM improves standards of perinatal care by supporting all those involved in perinatal care to optimise their skills and knowledge, promote high quality, safe and innovative practice, encourage research, and speak out for the needs of babies and their families.

Personal information submitted to us via this website will be used for the purposes specified in this privacy policy or in relevant parts of the website. We may use your personal information in the following ways:

As part of our contract with you to:

  • contact you about your membership or booking
  • keep you informed about BAPM membership benefits, sector news, policy updates and BAPM events. (You can inform us at any time if you no longer require these communications by clicking unsubscribe on an email or writing to [email protected].)

In certain instances, we will collect and use your personal information where this is necessary in our legitimate interest as a charity and professional association. This includes being able to: 

  • enable your use of the services available on the website;
  • undertake research or statistical analysis in relation to BAPM membership
  • add your professional details to event delegate lists where relevant to facilitate networking. (You can opt out of this when booking any BAPM event.)


3. Who might we share your information with?

We will never share your information with third parties. 

We may disclose information about you to any of our employees, committee representatives, agents, suppliers or subcontractors insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes as set out in this privacy policy.

If you choose to appear on an event delegate list then we will share your name, role and place of work. This list may be seen by sponsors and exhibitors attending the event.
In addition, we may disclose your personal information:

  • to the extent that we are required to do so by law;
  • in connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings;
  • in order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights (including providing information to others for the purposes of fraud prevention and reducing credit risk).

4. Security of your personal information

We will take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information.

Of course, data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.

You are responsible for keeping your password and user details confidential. We will not ask you for your password (except when you log in to the website).


5. How long do we keep hold of your information?

We will store your information in order to fulfil the purposes outlined in line with BAPM’s retention schedule. Retention is based on legal or statutory obligation to retain the data, where there is a need to retain the data to carry out the purpose or best practice.

Emails are retained in line with RCPCH's retention schedule. [From 1st November 2025 this is 7 years, from 1st April 2025 this is 3 years.]

BAPM does not retain credit card information once a transaction has been processed.


6. Policy amendments

We may update this privacy policy from time-to-time by posting a new version on our website.  You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes. 


7. Your rights

Under GDPR you have certain rights in regards to the data we hold about you. You can ask us to delete your personal data, change any inaccuracies, restrict what we use your personal data for or ask us to stop processing your data. You can also request that the data we hold about you is given back to you or given to another service provider in a commonly used format. This is called data portability. You are also entitled to a copy of the information we hold about you. However, there are some restrictions that apply to these requests, such as where we have overriding legal requirements we have to comply with. The website contains links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of third party websites.
