NHS England and NHS Improvement have published a report 'Implementing the Recommendations of the Neonatal Critical Care Transformation Review.' This action plan to implement the recommendations of the Neonatal Critical Care Transformation Review sets out how the NHS will further improve neonatal care with the support of funding set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.
The Neonatal Critical Care Review, commissioned by NHS England, was setup in response to the Better Births report in 2016 which recommended a dedicated review of neonatal services. This report sets out the actions required by the local and regional NHS to improve the care of babies and enhance the experience of families.
BAPM Honorary Secretary Steve Wardle said 'BAPM strongly supports the aims of improving capacity and staffing in neonatal units to ensure that high quality neonatal care is provided as close to home as possible, keeping mother and baby together and ensuring the smallest sickest babies are delivered in the right place with the right resources. There are also plans to develop and invest in support for families which is vitally important to improve the care of the baby and the family.
