BAPM and NeoFOCUS are seeking members to join a working group to develop a Framework for Practice on Neonatal Functional Haemodynamics.

There is no available consensus or framework of practice currently available in the UK on the management of haemodynamically unstable neonates and the role of functional echocardiographic assessment integrated into clinical care. There is wide variation in practice, governance standards and training between units across the country. NeoFOCUS-UK, in collaboration with BAPM, will develop a framework which aims to promote the safe and effective integration of neonatal haemodynamics into neonatal care.

The final remit of the framework will be determined by the working group but planned aims are to outline the indications and scope of targeted neonatal echocardiography and how this is distinguishable from POCUS, introduce a physiological and evidence based approach to neonatal haemodynamics, provide recommendations for clinical governance structures, develop a competency framework and outline a training programme.
