COLLABORATE is an innovative, UK-wide, 2-randomisation, adaptive, real-world data-enabled controlled trial, commencing in June 2025, that will investigate the clinical effectiveness and safety of feeding practices on necrotising enterocolitis, mortality, and cognitive impairment.
COLLABORATE will determine if pasteurised human donor milk or preterm formula should be used if there is insufficient own mother’s milk; and whether human milk feeds require routine macronutrient fortification. Parents, patients, and clinicians have consistently placed these uncertainties among the top three most important in all priority-ranking exercises over the last decade.
COLLABORATE is supported by NEC UK, Bliss, Adult Preemie Advocacy Network, The George Institute for Global Health, Neonatal Dieticians Interest Group, British Association for Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up, and British Association of Paediatric Surgeons.
Researchers are hosting a series of webinars to explain COLLABORATE and provide opportunity for clinical teams to ask questions and discuss the study. You can find a list of planned online meetings and respective links to join on the COLLABORATE website.
A description of study processes, and a summary of the evidence that provides strong justification for resolving these uncertainties are also available on the COLLABORATE website. You can also email [email protected] should you have any questions.
