Committee Members needed to help run BAPM Special Interest Group NeoFOCUS

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic members to join the executive committee of BAPM’s special interest group (SIG) NeoFOCUS. NeoFOCUS is a multidisciplinary group which exists to promote the safe and effective use of neonatal targeted functional echocardiography and point of care ultrasound (POCUS).
NeoFOCUS was formed independently by a group of professionals that recognised the need to bring together colleagues in the UK with an interest in neonatal functional haemodynamics and POCUS. The group’s mission is to enhance diagnostic precision and support pathophysiology-based neonatal management in term and preterm infants. In 2024 the group became a special interest group of BAPM.
The NeoFOCUS executive committee makes decisions about the group and oversees the work programme including the development of frameworks, study days and webinars. The group collaborates with UK and international colleagues as the ‘go to place’ for POCUS and neonatal haemodynamics in the UK.
Current vacancies
- Vice chair - supports the chair and other committee members to ensure that actions and responsibilities across work plans are on track. Deputises for the chair if needed to run committee meetings or act as spokesperson for the SIG.
- Secretary - maintains list of Executive committee members, circulates notes after meetings, maintains an action log. First point of call to respond to member and external queries.
- Research committee co-lead – works with other lead to oversee the NeoFOCUS research committee. Responsible for development and maintenance of the research work plan for the group. This may include supporting, promoting and facilitating research studies, signposting the latest research to group members or identifying and recommending research priorities.
- Communication & social media lead – responsible for internal and external communications about the group’s activities. Maintaining the NeoFOCUS social media accounts. Coordinating and editing text for newsletters to be sent to the wider membership 3 times per year (via the BAPM office).
- Representative for Local Neonatal Units – responsible for gathering and representing the views of LNU staff at NeoFOCUS committee and project meetings. Must be based in a UK LNU.
All executive committee members are expected to attend committee meetings held online 3-4 times per year.
In addition to the responsibilities above, executive committee members may join additional sub-groups to deliver specific projects or work streams. This is optional unless specified above.
Skills needed
Knowledge and experience of neonatal targeted functional echocardiography and point of care ultrasound.
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals.
- Commitment and dedication to support NeoFOCUS’s mission.
How to Apply
Any member of the SIG that is based in the UK can apply to join the Executive Committee. Where more than one member applies for a position then an election will be held by anonymous vote by the SIG membership. Terms will usually be for 3 years.
