BAPM is seeking parents to attend a virtual focus group to share their views on palliative and supportive care. The input from parents will be used to help develop a framework for professionals to use when caring for babies facing uncertainly in the neonatal unit.
Perinatal palliative care is the care delivered to babies and their families during antenatal, neonatal and transition periods. It includes care pathways to help deliver supportive care and parallel care for babies facing uncertainty, end of life and bereavement care for families where a baby dies and ongoing community care for babies that go home with additional needs. A number of different clinical services and agencies are involved in perinatal palliative care and we want to ensure that health care professionals are given helpful and clear recommendations on how best to support families in their unit.
We understand that these topics may be very upsetting for families with experience of perinatal palliative care. There will be questions that will ask you to think back to the time you spent on the neonatal unit. Please do consider your own needs when agreeing to help us with this work.
