Different Types of Review
1. Service Reviews
RCPCH has an invited review service. They deliver clinically-led peer review and consultancy services to healthcare providers, commissioners and service planners across the UK.These are to advise and support teams to resolve concerns about paediatric provision, safety, team dynamics and communication, compliance with standards and proposals for reconfiguration or service design. BAPM does not organise service reviews but does support RCPCH to recruit reviewers with neonatal expertise. If you indicate that you are willing to support RCPCH service reviews we will pass your information to the service review team at RCPCH. They will likely ask you to fill in additional paperwork and undertake their reviewer training programme.
2.Mortality or Serious Case Review
Sometimes trusts or national organisations will ask for an independent reviewer to review a single case or series of cases within their trust. BAPM is building a list of consultant members that are willing to act as independent reviewers. If you indicate that you are willing to undertake mortality or serious case reviews then you will be added to this list and asked annually to review your details to ensure they are up to date. When BAPM is contacted by an organisation requesting a reviewer we will share the full list with them so they can select an appropriate review team. If you choose to act as an independent reviewer then the contract or agreement will be between you as an individual clinician and the recruiting organisation.
